Martin Pigott

Co-opted Councillor

I have now been living in Llanwrtyd Wells for almost three years with my partner Katie who runs Shades of Green the Victorian shop in the town. I was co-opted on the Town Council on November 21st, 2018. I moved to Llanwrtyd from Norfolk when I retired from teaching. Before teaching I was a Manager of an Unemployed and Unwaged Centre and re-cycling project in Great Yarmouth. My background is in the arts, particularly lens-based media, and I studied Documentary Film and Photography at the old Newport Arts College in South Wales. I have exhibited my photographs in galleries in many parts of the UK and have facilitated numerous community based project empowering people through creative work. I have a lifelong interest in sports and was a successful long-distance runner, and am still very active in outdoor pursuits.

I perform a number of voluntary roles in Llanwrtyd. I am currently Secretary of the Dolwen Field Recreation For All Committee, I regularly attend the Twinning Committee and am involved in Green Events in numerous ways. I am Secretary of Walkers are Welcome and was instrumental in bringing the national WAW status to the town.

I am a keen long-distance walker and lead walks for the Wednesday walking group and also guide visitors who come to the town to walk. I manage the Town Website www.llanwrtyd.com and provided many of the images on the website.

I was a founding member of the Llanwrtyd Tourist Association, and as an event tourist town I am keen to help promote tourism and help build on the world class events the town holds.
