Llanwrtyd Wells Town Council
Helping to make a Difference in your Community

Hugh Edwin Jones
Co-Opted Councillor

I was raised in Pwllheli, North Wales, and completed my education at the University of Derby, where I obtained a master’s degree in Event Management. My early career began with Cwmni Theatr Cymru, the Welsh National Theatre Company, where I focused on production management. Subsequently, I transitioned into Theatre Management, taking on roles at Theatr Gwynedd in Bangor and at The Aberystwyth Arts Centre, where I also produced the annual Summer Season Productions. In 1992, I joined Gwynedd Council, becoming the inaugural Film Commissioner in Wales and serving as a Director for the Government-sponsored British Film Commission. This position allowed me to regularly attend prestigious events such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Los Angeles market. My responsibilities at Gwynedd Council also included overseeing a European project to support significant events, including The Bryn Terfel Faenol Festival, the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend, and The Tour of Britain, among others. In late 2022, my wife and I relocated to Llanwrtyd to be nearer to family. I continue to work as an events consultant, although I am now semi-retired. I have a strong desire to contribute to the vibrant community of Llanwrtyd, and with my recent appointment as a Councillor, I aspire to give back to the town that I have come to cherish and call home.
